Hands-on STEM workshop exploring advanced manufacturing through creativity and design thinking
STEM education is most impactful when it connects theory with practice. The Ideas Made Real Programme: The STEM Workshop is a hands-on learning experience designed to introduce learners to STEM, advanced manufacturing, and emerging technologies in an engaging and accessible way. Through creative problem-solving and design thinking, participants gain early exposure to how science, technology, engineering, and creativity are applied in real-world industry settings. The workshop helps demystify modern manufacturing and supports informed future study and career choices
Developed by Irish Manufacturing Research (IMR), this workshop supports schools and educators in delivering exciting, project-based learning that enhances curiosity, collaboration, and critical thinking—core skills that drive future innovation.
What to Expect
Participants take part in a 2 hour interactive workshop delivered either at IMR Mullingar or as an outreach session in schools.
The full workshop includes:
- An introduction to STEM and advanced manufacturing concepts,
- Team-based exploration of real-world challenges Ideation and creative problem-solving activities,
- Development of prototype solutions using 3D design and digital tools,
- Group discussion and reflection to reinforce learning outcomes.
All activities are age-appropriate and adapted to suit the learner group.
